About
Laurence
Berkley:
For
more than forty years, Laurence Berkley has followed a path
immersed in the fusion studies that have become a modern fitness
trend. He teaches and coaches a multitude of disciplines involving
yoga, martial arts and dance. Considered a guru of the fusion
studies found today in health clubs across the country, Laurence
develops specialized workouts for serious students as well
as busy professionals seeking a fun, spiritual way to stay
in shape.
| Laurence
began his dance studies at the age of six, and won dance
competitions while growing up in Los Angeles. Soon after
high school, Laurence served three years in the United
States Army. Upon leaving the military, Laurence attended
college while studying karate in Los Angeles. |
 |
After
earning his third-degree black belt in karate, Laurence
traveled to Japan for further study of the discipline. It
was here that Laurence began training in Okinawan weapons
disciplines with his Karate Master. He also taught and performed
Tai Chi Chuan and visited numerous Buddhist temples and
Shinto Shrines to further expand his understanding of Yoga
discipline.
Since
returning to the United States, Laurence has taught his
first-hand interpretation of ancient martial arts disciplines
to students around the world from Los Angeles to Europe.
Laurence
also instilled discipline and cultural awareness in the
lives of the five children he raised. They have all gone
on to remarkable success in their respective fields ranging
from music to photography to anthropology.
| Laurence
currently coaches, practices, and researches karate,
yoga, Tai Chi Chuan, Chi Kung, and Kobudo in Las Vegas.
Kobudo, a form of non-combative weapons training incorporating
a short staff (jo), is the inspiration behind
Laurence’s first DVD, A Samurai Workout.

Laurence
believes everyone should study martial arts fitness. Civility
is eroding in our uncertain world, and there is a need to
be skillfully alert, to sense and retreat from danger. Laurence’s
current goal is to instill the confidence that develops
from a strong mind-body-spirit connection in as many people
as he can.
Laurence’s
teachings revolve around his philosophy that life on this
planet consists of vibrational energy which connects its
organic components. His lifelong study of martial arts and
movement disciplines has served as his vehicle to receive
and embrace this vibrational energy. This energy has come
from balance, fitness and understanding self-defense, which
can allow each of us to move beyond our perceived limitations.
